Who was Sophocles?

Sophocles was a very influential Ancient Greece writer.  He came from a wealthy family.  He had 5 sons, with different wives.  Two of his sons were well know, the other three were mentioned but no one knows much about them. One of his sons, Iophon, got jealous of Sophocles' illegitimate sons and he called Sophocles mentally insane.  To prove he wasn't insane, he recited part of Oedipus, which he had just recently wrote, and his son gave up on calling him mental, which I'm sure was very relieving.
